FLOATS
Anchorage Museum, AK.
2014 - 2017
-
Inspired by the history of glass fishing floats lost by fishermen in East Asia that were taken across the Pacific by ocean currents to become encased – sometimes for decades - in arctic sea ice, then ultimately released to wash up upon North American shores. The Floats series of small-scale sculptures will remain tethered under various Arctic waters for terms ranging from a season to years. Subject to freeze/thaw and a range of water forces, the temporary sites range from Bering Sea shoreline, Arctic river, meltwater pond of a glacier, to a collapsed pingo bowl. The sculptures will be monitored and documented.

Floats, 2014 – 2017. This series of small-scale sculptures was first exhibited at the Anchorage Museum in 2016. Two are now in the museum's permanent collection Blown and sealed glass inside wood armetures. Dimensions variable.
